The photograph used is good and relates to the theme of your magazine. You have added lots of coverlines to draw the reader's attention in. You have also used colours that do not blend with the background for your text. There is a barcode and price tag to make the magazine seem more realistic.
An improvement could be that you could make the main coverline stand out more. Furthermore there is a minor spelling mistake with the date of the magazine.
Although your picture is unconventional, I think it fits the theme of the sports edition correctly and is more professional for the issue.You have also used all of the codes and conventions and a good colour scheme. One improvement would be to fit the cover lines onto the picture better to make it look more professional.

To improve you could also rearrange your cover lines to make it look more professional. Also, you could add a flash/puff to make your front cover page look more eye-catching and interesting. In addition, you might want to add an issue number.
